DOH sets P10M for anti-swine flu drugs

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health will allot P10 million from its budget for 2009 to buy additional medicines against the swine flu virus, Secretary Francisco Duque said Thursday.

The amount can buy about 100,000 tamiflu capsules, which will be good for 10,000 swine flu cases, DUque told a press conference.

MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is looking at entering deals with the Manila Electric Co and other power suppliers to prevent power outages during the 2010 automated elections, an official said.

Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said he would elevate this concern to the poll en banc, which aims to lead to formal agreements with power suppliers to ensure continuous power supply throughout the duration of the May 2010 elections.

MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the poll machines that would be used in 2010 would undergo redundant tests, an official said.

Special Bids and Awards Committee (SBAC) chairman Ferdinand Rafanan said once a winning bidder is awarded the contract for the automated election system (AES), there would be five end-to-end tests for the system, including the counting and consolidating units, before it is accepted by the Comelec.

MANILA, Philippines—Bidders for the P11.2-billion poll automation project of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) agreed to the postponement of the public bidding to May 4, a week after the original schedule, an official said.

Special Bids and Awards Committee (SBAC) chairman Ferdinand Rafanan said the 10 potential bidders for the project “did not send any form of expression opposing the new schedule.”
