MANILA, Philippines – To bring voter’s registration centers closer to the people, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is conducting a series of satellite registration activities this month in different parts of Metro Manila, an official said.

“The Comelec understands that some voters have difficulty in finding time in their busy schedules to register. So the Comelec is going directly to them to have them listed up and be able to vote in 2010,” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said.

Residents who find it difficult to go to election offices can request for satellite registration via their municipal or city election officers, who will arrange for the activity, explained Jimenez.

The poll official encouraged especially first time voters to take advantage of early registration in their areas to avoid the long lines in Comelec offices.

“I’d like to reiterate that we have registration on Saturdays and all Holidays that fall on a weekend so that busy persons can have time to register,” said Jimenez.

To register or reactivate a voters’ record, a person must bring one valid school or government ID with name, picture, and address of the person, except barangay (village) clearance and cedula. Voters must also bring a photocopy of their valid ID to be submitted to the Comelec.

Registration period is until October 31.
