MANILA, Philippines – Outsourcing companies continue to operate over the weekend despite heavy rains and floods of caused by Typhoon ‘Ondoy,’ according to a top official of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP).

BPAP chief executive Oscar Sanez there were no disruptions in BPO operations despite news of commuters stranded all over Metro Manila and nearby areas since Saturday.

“There were no major disruptions in the operations on the part of our BPO companies in Metro Manila because there was 24/7 electricity in the areas of Makati, Ortigas and Quezon City where most of our thriving firms are located,” Sanez told in a phone interview.

Sanez is confident BPOs have systems in place to ensure continuous operations especially those with facilities in flooded areas like Marikina and Eastwood in Libis, Quezon City

Employees whose shifts ended Saturday night and early Sunday would be most affected by floods or caught up in heavy traffic, he said.

The BPO sector is considered the country’s “sunshine” industry employing nearly half a million Filipinos and generating more than $6 billion in annual revenues.

BPAP is forecasting revenues to grow to $8 billion this year with more investors coming from the United States and Europe.
