MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged eligible voters to enlist before the nationwide registration ends on October 31, a spokesman said.

The Comelec will not extend the registration because the list will be submitted to the Election Regulatory Board (ERB) hearings before approval and inclusion into the computerized voters’ list (CVL) for the 2010 elections.

He added that voters’ registration last October 18 and on October 25, were being implemented for victims of “Ondoy” and “Pepeng” in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the National Capital Region.

The early deadline was done as part of the activities leading up to the 2010 polls such as preparing the CVL and precinct book for the 80,000 clustered precincts and printing of ballots containing the names of all candidates, Jimenez said.

Between March 11 and 25, 2010 notices will be sent for the inspection, verification, and final look of the precinct books before these are sealed between March 26 and April 10, said Jimenez.
