MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections has opened its offices nationwide to allow prospective candidates in the 2010 elections to file their certificates of candidacy.

“The Comelec is now ready to accept CoCs from candidates in the local and national levels,” said Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal Friday.

Larrazabal said the Comelec law department on the ground floor of the Palacio del Gobernador Building in Intramuros would be taking in the CoCs from those running in the national level –
president, vice president, and senator – while those in the local level – congressmen, governors, mayors, and vice mayors – would be accepted at the local Comelec offices.

Larrazabal appealed to the media to interview before they file their CoCs as interviews conducted after might be misconstrued as campaigning.

Larrazabal also appealed to the candidates to limit their entourage to members of their immediate family and lawyers.
