MANILA, Philippines–Bantay representative and Retired Army Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan Jr. filed his candidacy for senator with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday.

The former military official, also known by names “The Butcher” and “Berdugo,” said he intends to campaign against left-wing solons, hinting at Bayan Muna Representative Satur Ocampo and Gabriela Representative Liza Maza, who filed their senatorial bids Sunday.

“I will campaign against the left-wing forces of parties and candidates,” said Palparan after he filed his candidacy at around 4p.m.

Palparan was proclaimed by Comelec eligible to run for Congress after the Supreme Court a previous ruling used to determine which party list groups would get a second or third seat at Congress.

This paved the way for 28 more party list representatives to fill in the total 55 seats available in the lower chamber or 20 percent of total seats at the House.

Ocampo and Maza was among those vocal about their disapproval of Palparan getting a House seat, after the latter was linked to over 500 human rights abuse before he retired in 2006.

On July, Maza called Palparan and Anad Representative Pastor Alcover “crazy dogs” after both accused Fil-Am activist Melissa Roxas to be a member of the New People’s Army.
