Anti-piracy group nabs more hard disk ‘loaders’

MANILA, Philippines— Two men caught installing counterfeit software as an “add-on service” at the Greenhills Shopping Center in San Juan City were arrested recently by the Pilipinas Anti-Piracy Team (PAPT).

The two men are working for Laptop Zone Wellcom located in Virra Mall. They face up to nine years imprisonment and a fine of P1.5 million for violating the Optical Media Act, the PAPT said in a statement. Read the rest of this entry »


Comelec reports low registration turnout despite extension

MANILA, Philippines—A Commission on Elections (Comelec) official said Monday the first three days of the extended voters’ registration nationwide had a low turnout but expects higher number of registrants between Monday and Tuesday.

24 injured from firecrackers, stray bullets—DoH

MANILA, Philippines—Twenty-three Filipinos have been injured due to firecrackers and one from a stray bullet between December 21 and 24, the Department of Health said Friday.

The number of fireworks-related injuries, which included seven children under 10 years old, was fewer by 10 cases compared to the same period last year, according to the department’s Iwas Paputok Surveillance Update report. Read the rest of this entry »

Partylist groups have until March for nominees—Comelec

MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) ruled that registered partylist groups for the 2010 elections must submit a list of nominees to the poll body and publish the names in all campaign materials, a spokesman said Friday.

The five nominees from which the partylist representatives would be elected should be submitted to the Comelec legal department no later than March 26 and must include nominees that would satisfy the minimum qualifications according to election laws, said Comelec spokesman James Jimenez.
