MANILA, Philippine – An office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) received a bomb threat from an anonymous caller Wednesday morning.

In an interview, Education and Information Department (EID) Audio-visual staff, Virginia Bayer said she received an angry call from a man at 9:55 a.m. saying that a bomb was planted on the third floor of the Comelec building as protest for a certain “Miriam.”

“Tinanong ko po kung saang third floor at sinong Miriam ang sinasabi niya pero binaba na po niya yung phone (I asked which third floor and who is the Miriam he’s talking about but he already hung up the phone),” Bayer said.

Based on the initial investigation, Comelec has no way of tracing the call because their phones have no caller ID.

The Comelec’s EID holds office at the Casa Rocha Shipping Center building while the Comelec’s main office is located at the sixth floor of the Casa del Gobernador building.

Comelec spokesman and EID Director James Jimenez said that based on initial investigations, no explosives have been found by bomb experts, Jimenez said.

He added that there is no need to vacate their office but additional security will be emplaced at the entrance to their building.

“The bomb technicians said that only those who are familiar with the building should stay so that would be me and some of my staff. There would be control on who enters the building to ensure safety. We will inspect every room and all of the staff later,” Jimenez said.

Meanwhile, Jimenez said that there was a disqualification case filed against reelectionist against Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago but they are yet to probe its connection between the bomb threat.
