Comelec to buy 80,000 UV readers to check ballots’ security

Comelec issues guidelines on delivery of ERs

MANILA, Philippines—All printed election returns (ERs) should be submitted to the Commission on Elections and the Philippine Congress not later than three days after the May 10 polls, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said Wednesday.

Based on Comelec resolution 8803 promulgated on March 16, Jimenez said the board of election inspectors will deliver to the election officer (EO) the envelopes containing the printed ERs intended for Comelec, Congress and Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC). 700,000 double registrants bared; poll watchlist issued

MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will issue a watchlist against at least 700,000 double or multiple registered voters nationwide ahead of the polls in May, an official said Friday.

“The creation of the watchlist would prevent these multiple registrants to vote in more than one precinct where they have been registered. ITD will issue to Election Officers a list of voters whose registration records are not valid anymore per precinct and per district, city or municipality so they can only vote once. Standard competency exam for BPO agents launched

MANILA, Philippines—The Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P) launched Monday a national competency test to streamline the recruitment of applicants in the $7.2 billion outsourcing industry, officials said.

BPA/P’s national competency test (BNCT), which is an assessment program to generate industry-ready talents for the country’s IT-BPO industry, includes test components for learning ability, English language proficiency, perceptual speed and accuracy, computer literacy and service orientation, said its chief executive and president Oscar Sanez. MANILA, Philippines — Medium-sized enterprises and business in the country and Asia-Pacific are the pioneers in the adoption of data center technologies to reduce information technology (IT) costs and manage increasing data center complexity compared to their smaller and larger counterparts, an IT executive said.

Based on its 2010 report on the state of the data center, medium-sized enterprises are more likely to adopt cloud computing, de-duplication, storage virtualization and continuous data protection for its data center assets to drive growth despite tight staffing and budget, said Lim Andre Xavier, regional product manager for Asia-Pacific and Japan of Symantec. 25,000 more poll machines ready for transport to RP—execs

MANILA, Philippines – The remaining poll machines to be used for the May national elections have been assembled and ready for shipment to the country from China, officials said.

A total of 25, 300 precinct count optical scan machines (PCOS) are expected to arrive here from the Qisdi Facility in China on or before February 21, the deadline set for the delivery of the equipment, said Gene Gregorio, spokesman for Smartmatic-Total Information Management.
