BACOLOD – The Department of Health (DoH) will start conducting vaccinations against (A)H1N1 influenza for frontline health personnel and high risk groups after the vaccines are delivered by month-end, officials said Thursday.
World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director Margaret Chan committed that the Philippines would receive nine million doses of vaccines, good for nine million Filipinos who are frontline healthcare workers and those belonging to high-risk groups, said Dr. Troy Gepte, WHO technical officer for communicable diseases, surveillance and response. MANILA, Philippines – The country now has 344 Influenza A(H1N1) cases after the Department of Health (DoH) confirmed 33 new cases on Thursday.
The new A(H1N1) patients include 24 men and 11 women, with ages ranging from one to 52 years, said Doctor Lyndon Lee Suy, a medical specialist from the Institute for Emerging Infectious Diseases. Read the rest of this entry »

MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE) An 11-month-old Filipino boy who came from Japan has been placed under observation for possible infection of the A(H1N1) flu virus, a health official said Monday.
In an interview with reporters, Dr. Lyndon Lee Suy, program manager for Dengue and Emerging Infectious Diseases of the Department of Health, said that the boy was admitted May 16 at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Alabang, Muntinlupa City and test results on the throat specimen taken from him would be out midweek.
