MANILA, Philippines – Former president and democracy icon Corazon “Cory” Aquino is the most loved as a national leader or politician by Filipinos, Pulse Asia revealed in its latest survey.

About 35 percent of the 1,800 adult respondents surveyed nationwide from January 22-26 expressed their preference for the late leader who led a popular revolt that dismantled a 20-year dictatorship under Ferdinand Marcos in 1986. Read the rest of this entry »

MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE 4) Senator Benigno Aquino III has called on every Filipino to secure the democracy that his parents have fought for, saying, “The ball is now in our hands.”

MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE 3) Around 2,000 people in yellow gathered at the Ninoy Aquino monument in Makati City Friday to commemorate the 26th death anniversary of Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and gave new meaning to the color that has been identified with the martyred opposition leader and years later his widow.

MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE 3) Members of the diplomatic community heaped praises on the late President Corazon Aquino during her wake at the Manila Cathedral on Tuesday.

“We will miss Tita Cory. All of us have lost a woman who stood bravely for freedom, unification and for bringing people together while her family lost a mother so my heart goes out to them,” United States Ambassador Kristie Kenney said, affectionately referring to Mrs. Aquino by her nickname.
