MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE 2) Wearing the Nacionalista Party’s signature orange color, Senator Manuel “Manny” Villar filed his candidacy for president with the Commission on Elections on Monday at exactly 9:37 a.m.

Together with Villar were his running mate Senator Loren Legarda and part of the party’s senatorial lineup composed of Senator Pia Cayetano, Ilocos Norte Representative Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Adel Tamano, Susan Ople, Gwendolyn Pimentel, and Ramon “Mon-Mon” Mitra. 2010 presidential race remains tight—poll

MANILA, Philippines—If the presidential elections were held today, five contenders will have a tight race for the post as they would garner about the same percentages of Filipino votes, the Pulse Asia May 2009 survey said.

Filipinos would likely vote for Vice President Noli L. De Castro (18 percent), Senator Francis G. Escudero (17 percent), former President Joseph Estrada (15 percent), Senator Manuel B.
