Remaining 13,500 poll machines to arrive this week — Comelec

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday said that they are expecting the delivery of the remaining 13,000 poll machines, which would be used for the May automated elections, said Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal.

Larrazabal, who chairs the steering committee on automation, said that the 13,580 units of the Precinct Count Optical Scan-Optical Mark Reader (PCOS-OMR), including the 6,380 standby units, are in transit to the country and are set to arrive February 26, two days ahead of the scheduled delivery deadline. More poll machines to arrive—IT firm

MANILA, Philippines – More poll machines to be used in the presidential elections will continue to arrive every week in the country from January to February, an official from the company that would provide the equipment said, after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) received the first batch of 4,000 units.

A total of 7,200 precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines were shipped to the country this month, including 3,200 units which arrived at the Bureau of Customs Tuesday, Gene Gregorio, spokesman for Smartmatic-Total Information Management (TIM), told Thursday. Read the rest of this entry »

Only 10,000 poll machines to arrive by year-end

MANILA, Philippines—Automation technology provider Smartmatic-Total Information Management (TIM) would be able to ramp up on-time 42,000 poll machines included in the first delivery schedule but only one-fourth will arrive by year-end due to shipment delays, a spokesman said.

Freight delivery services “cannot accommodate” the delivery of 42,000 poll machines to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) because the shipping lines have already “reached full capacity” due to the high volume of shipments this holiday season. Read the rest of this entry »

MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said about half of the 82,200 precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines that will be used in the 2010 elections will arrive in the country by month’s end, an official said.
