25,000 more poll machines ready for transport to RP—execs

MANILA, Philippines – The remaining poll machines to be used for the May national elections have been assembled and ready for shipment to the country from China, officials said.

A total of 25, 300 precinct count optical scan machines (PCOS) are expected to arrive here from the Qisdi Facility in China on or before February 21, the deadline set for the delivery of the equipment, said Gene Gregorio, spokesman for Smartmatic-Total Information Management. MANILA, Philippines – More poll machines to be used in the presidential elections will continue to arrive every week in the country from January to February, an official from the company that would provide the equipment said, after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) received the first batch of 4,000 units.

A total of 7,200 precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines were shipped to the country this month, including 3,200 units which arrived at the Bureau of Customs Tuesday, Gene Gregorio, spokesman for Smartmatic-Total Information Management (TIM), told INQUIRER.net Thursday. 42,000 poll machines to arrive by end-December—Comelec

MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said about half of the 82,200 precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines that will be used in the 2010 elections will arrive in the country by month’s end, an official said.

Automation provider Smartmatic-Total Information Management (TIM) gave assurances the first batch of 42,200 machines is set to arrive by December 31, said Comelec commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal, head of the steering committee on automation. Read the rest of this entry »

Comelec trims clustered precincts for 2010 polls

MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will reduce the number of clustered precincts for next year’s automated polls from 80,000 to around 73,000, an official said Wednesday.

The reduction came after the poll body found out that that some of the 80,000 clustered precincts have 500 or 600 registered voters only—way below the maximum 1,000 voters that the poll machine can process during May 10 elections, said Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal. Smartmatic vows on-time delivery of poll machines

MANILA, Philippines—The automation partner of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has assured the poll body that it would deliver on time the 82,200 poll machines to be used in the 2010 polls.

Cesar Flores, Smartmatic president for Asia-Pacific, told the Inquirer.net in an interview Wednesday that Smartmatic and Total Information Management (TIM) would be able to manufacture and deliver 42,000 poll machines in December and the remaining 40,000 units in January next year.
