MANILA, Philippines—With just five months before the deadline for voters’ registration, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged eligible voters both here and abroad to register for the May 2010 polls, an official said.

“The Commission is encouraging all eligible youth, first-time voters and Filipinos who have not registered and voted in previous elections to take the opportunity to register this summer in their respective municipal or city election offices so they can vote in the 2010 elections,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez told INQUIRER.net. MANILA, Philippines–Voters’ registration would be suspended from the afternoon of Holy Wednesday to Black Saturday, a poll official said Tuesday.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez said the poll body issued a memorandum on Tuesday afternoon declaring registration break from the afternoon of April 8 to April 11 is in observance of the Holy Week.

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has purged some four million names from its voters’ list, the head of the poll body said.

“A total of 4,196,402 names were removed from the voters’ list,” trimming the total number of registered voters to 44.219 million, Comelec chairman Jose Melo said.
