MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) could “take over” the position vacated by a Filipino firm in a technology consortium tasked automate the 2010 elections so that it would push through, an elections official said.

MANILA, Philippines – The consortium that won the bidding for the 2010 election automation project said its track record would show that its machines were tamper proof, as it allayed fears of election fraud.

MANILA, Philippines–The demonstration and technical evaluation of poll machines at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) momentarily stopped after a test machine “supposedly caught fire.”

MANILA, Philippines–The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it will start post- qualification and technical evaluation of poll machines of a qualifying bidder while it resolves pending appeals for the P11.2-billion poll automation project, a poll official said.

“Whatever rulings in the motions of AMA-ES&S consortium, Gilat consortium and Sequoia joint venture, we shall proceed with the post-qualification and technical evaluation of machines of the bidder Smartmatic and TIM (Total Information Management)—this will be without prejudice to the pending motions or requests so that proceedings will not be delayed any further,” said Special Bids and Awards Committee (SBAC) chairman Ferdinand Rafanan. MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE) The Commission on Elections has denied the appeal of the AMA Group Holdings-Elections Systems & Software International consortium to bid again for the P11.2-billion automation project, an election official overseeing the bids said.

MANILA, Philippines—A representative from bidder AMA Group Holdings consortium accused the official spokesperson of the Commission on Elections of committing an “irresponsible action,” after allegedly creating the impression that Smartmatic consortium had already won the bid.

MANILA, Philippines–Two bidders are now racing to bag the P11.2 billion automation project of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), as a bid committee opened their financial proposals.

On Saturday night, the Special Bids and Awards Committee, chaired by Comelec legal department director Ferdinand Rafanan, opened the financial bids of the consortium of Smartmatic and Total Information Management (TIM) and the consortium of Indra Sistemas, Hart Intercivic and Strategic Alliance Holdings Inc. (SAHI).
