49M voters exceed Comelec’s forecast on turnout

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Friday over 49 million voters have registered for the 2010 elections—up by two million from the turnout forecast by the agency months ago.

Comelec confident 3M new voter target met

MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is “confident” that it had met its target of at least three million new voters during the nationwide registration that ended Tuesday, an official said.

“We are confident that we have met the target of having at least three million new voters registered for the 2010 elections. Our offices have been deluged by applicants especially during the last month of registration. MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections extended to Tuesday the nationwide voters’ registration, an official of the poll body said Saturday.

The Comelec is drafting an advisory to be disseminated to all regional directors, said Commissioner Rene Sarmiento.

How do I register?

An eligible voter should be a Filipino citizen, who is 18 years old on or before Election Day and has resided in the place where he proposes to vote for at least six months preceding the election and for one year in the Philippines.

To register, an applicant must personally appear before the Election Officer of the municipality where he intends to vote and present a valid school or government ID for identification, except IDs or residence certificates or cedula issued by barangay (village) officials. MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged eligible voters to enlist before the nationwide registration ends on October 31, a spokesman said.

The Comelec will not extend the registration because the list will be submitted to the Election Regulatory Board (ERB) hearings before approval and inclusion into the computerized voters’ list (CVL) for the 2010 elections. Read the rest of this entry »

MANILA, Philippines—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has urged voters to verify before October 31 the status of their registration to know if they need to enroll their biometrics or reactivate their registration to vote in the 2010 polls, an official said.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said verification of registration status can be done in two ways: by asking the election officer in the district where he or she is enlisted and through Comelec’s Online Find Precinct page. Read the rest of this entry »
